How I Wrote It

I read about a case where a young girl, who had previously been the perfect daughter, met a much older boy on the internet.  They became a couple and the girl became totally rebellious, grades dropping, using drugs, having sex, etc.  Her parents finally told the boy and the girl they could no longer see one another.  The boy and girl subsequently murdered the girl’s parents.  This reminded me of the long ago case of spree killers Caryl Ann Fugate and Charles Starkweather of whom books and films have been made.

I began researching and found twenty two cases of young girls and a boyfriend killing or attempting to kill one or both of the girl’s parents in just a short span.  They have been others since I began that search.  It occurred to me that this might be the female counter part of the Columbine phenomenon.  Males take the anger to the street--out- and females keep it close to the vest-home.

I used to economic down swing to highlight and help cause the fracture within Ames’ “perfect” family, but any stressor can cause a fracture to occur, especially when a child reaches those difficult and emotional teen years.
